Summer Listening Sessions
with Councilman Andy Thomson
This summer, Councilman Andy Thomson hosted a citywide Listening Tour — a series of in-person sessions where hundreds of residents, business owners, community leaders, and neighbors came together to share their voices.
Over the course of three weeks, Andy heard you loud and clear. The number one concern raised again and again was the proposed Government Campus Redevelopment plan — a project that many feel is too big, too rushed, and lacking the community input it deserves.
From the very beginning, Andy has opposed this plan and pushed for more outreach and transparency. While Andy for months has been opposed to holding a final vote as early as October since that would not provide enough time for adequate due diligence or resident input, these community conversations made it clear that a mere delay of that vote is not enough. Andy also shares the concern that a delay could simply be used as a tactic to let public interest fade so the project can later be approved with less attention.
That’s why Andy is now calling for this project to be decided by a vote of the people — because a decision of this scale should not move forward without the community’s voice being heard.
Thank you to everyone who joined a session, asked tough questions, and shared your perspective. These conversations are shaping the way forward for Boca Raton.
